research activity

The main research areas of the Department of Materials Science and Machine Design include:

  • the design and simulation of technological processes in mechanical engineering;
  • the investigation and modelling of the formability of metallic materials;
  • the development and integration of new, advanced methods in the quality assurance of sheet metal components with complex surfaces;
  • the application of virtual design and development methods using simulation software and graphical design systems.

In addition, the department also carries out technology transfer activities in the following fields:

  • mechanical materials testing;
  • non-destructive materials testing;
  • welder training and certification centre.

Furthermore, the department supports the research activities of the Regional University Knowledge Centre for the Vehicle Industry through laboratory tests and the involvement of academic staff.
